Penny Varney started off as a graduate from Toronto General Hospital in 1967. A mid-life metamorphosis resulted in her enrolling as a full-time student at Georgian College in Barrie, Ontario. Penny took such courses as life drawing, ceramics, design, photography, art history, and jewellery techniques.
Penny graduated in 1991, and now creates custom jewellery in sterling silver, gold, and other metals. She enjoys creating one-of-a-kind pieces rather than reproducing the same designs.
Her studio is open for the Muskoka Autumn Studio Tour only. Her store, Penny Varney Jewellery Gallery and Gifts, is located on the main street of Gravenhurst, and showcases much of Penny's work.

Penny Varney came to her art of forming metal into wearable works of art through a series of explorations into different media.
Most inspired by Art Deco, Penny's first love is design. Often she will incorporate a geometric or abstract motif. With a growing family, she turned her attention to designing for the real world. Silver, gold, niobium, anodized aluminum, patinated copper and brass are
her metals of choice.
